Aggies run the table from start to finish to bury Northern Colorado
No. 4 UC Davis never trails in impressive 59-7 rout as win streak reaches 8
Football fans like to talk about “trap” games.
Such contests are loosely defined as when a highly ranked team is coming off an important win and has to play a “lesser” regarded opponent before meeting yet another stern test.
No. 4 UC Davis, coming off an impressive win in their last game over Eastern Washington and slated to travel to No. 10 Montana next Saturday, had a home date Saturday as a heavy favorite over Northern Colorado.
“We were playing at home,” explained a smiling Aggie running back Lan Larison about the 59-7 Aggie rout of UNC that some observers had suggested could be a “trap” game.
“It was great getting to see so many of our younger guys getting to play.”
Indeed, first-year Aggie head coach Tim Plough pretty much cleared his bench early on and yet the scoring onslaught continued unabated.
“We've been focused on each game since the first day of practice,” Plough noted.
“We talked about how this should be our best game of the year, not because of the opponent, but because we had two weeks to prepare. I’m so proud that we played to our standard and everything is still possible for us.”
That “everything” includes a conference championship and a bid to the NCAA's 24-team FCS national championship playoff. The Aggies haven't sewn up a playoff bid yet, but they are certainly close with three games remaining in the regular season.
