Basketball in August? Aggie men and women release action-packed schedules
Women host Arizona State, men take on Washington and Oregon State
The Olympics are still going on, the Little League World Series in Williamsport starts next week and the college football season opens at the end of the month, but already UC Davis is talking basketball.
Yes, non-conference schedules have just been released for both Aggie men's and women's basketball, and local fans are in for a treat.
The first game that jumps off the schedule and grabs the attention of every women's basketball fan involves the Arizona State Sun Devils, who will be coming to the University Credit Union Center Dec. 15 to take on the UC Davis women.
While it may be hard for folks to keep track of the merry-go-round of changing league affiliations in the last year or two, this is the same Arizona State that was a longtime member of the Pac-12, but as of August 1 is now in the Big 12. And never mind that neither of those two leagues actually has 12 teams anymore. Higher math has gone out the window during the turmoil of conference realignment.
In any regard, this will be the first time Arizona State has graced the UCUC, formerly known as the Pavilion and originally named Rec Hall when it opened in 1977. Prior to that, it was officially known as a cornfield on the University Farm.
In addition, San Diego State of the highly respected Mountain West Conference comes to town Nov. 8.
The UCD women, under head coach Jennifer Gross, open the season at home Nov. 4 against Simpson College.
A huge road test for the Aggie women comes November 13 at Stanford, a 2024 NCAA Tournament participant as a Pac-12 member, but now in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
