Dethlefson, Sawai lead UC Davis softball to 3-1 mark to open the 2025 season
Aggies stop Utah Valley, San Jose State, St Mary's, fall to Boise State
Freshman Alyssa Dethlefson had quite a debut weekend in a UC Davis softball uniform as the Aggies went 3-1 to open the 2025 season over the weekend at La Rue Field.
After Thursday's doubleheader against Idaho State was rained out, the Aggies opened Friday with a 3-0 win over Utah Valley.
They followed that up with a 3-0 win over San Jose State on Saturday before splitting two games on Sunday.
In Sunday's opener UCD was run-ruled by powerful Boise State, 15-5, but rebounded for a 2-1 win over St. Mary's.
Ashley Sawai picked up two victories on the mound, finishing the weekend with 18 strikeouts against a single walk.
Dethlefson took full advantage of her only opportunity to say she once batted 1.000 in college by singling in her first at-bat against Utah Valley and finished the day still batting 1.000 after going 3-for-3 with two stolen bases.
She also had two singles and two more stolen bases against St. Mary's to finish the weekend with a gaudy .600 batting average.
