Epps, Sabel lead the way as Aggie women overwhelm Cal State Northridge in Big West basketball
Aggies show remarkable balance in a convincing 66-45 win to sweep a two-game road swing
NORTHRIDGE ... In a complete team effort, UC Davis led from start to finish to crush Cal State Northridge, 66-45, Saturday afternoon before a gathering of 220 at the Premier America Credit Union Arena.
The win, UCD's second of a two-game road trip, moves the Aggies to 11-6 in Big West play and 17-10 overall with three games remaining in the regular season. Northridge is now 2-14 and 4-21.
Ironically, the Aggies opened the road trip Thursday night by defeating Cal State Bakersfield by an identical 66-45 margin.
Tova Sabel and Victoria Baker had five points each as the Aggies opened a 17-2 lead on their hosts and never looked back.
UCD led 25-11 at the quarter, 41-25 at half and 52-34 after three quarters as head coach Jen Gross substituted liberally.
All 12 Aggies had at least one rebound, 10 scored, 10 had an assist, seven hit a 3-pointer and six had a steal.
Nya Epps led the scoring parade with 15 points, while Tova Sabel had 12.
Point guard Sydney Burns had a standout afternoon with five rebounds and five assists, while Victoria Baker added six rebounds.
The Aggies return home for the final time on Saturday, March 1 for a 2 p.m. Senior Day game against Hawaii, then conclude the regular season on the road March 6 at UC Irvine and March 8 at UC San Diego.
Elsewhere in the Big West on Saturday, UC Riverside dropped Cal Poly, 74-63, Irvine stopped Bakersfield, 60-49, and UC Santa Barbara routed Long Beach State, 73-58.
