Great piece, Bob. Your salute to Mr. Brunelle is testament to the legacy he left in his wake. Rare is the person who has such impact on a community. And though Mr. Brunelle has passed on, his music lives in the lives of those he touched.
“If his song is to continue, we must do the singing.”
Dick Brunelle's tenure at Davis High stretches back almost to my student days at DHS. I wonder if he could have helped me sing and dance, two things I never did back then. (Or now).
Great column Bob. I’m thrilled that it just so happens that my Jazz Choir alumnus (I really hope that is the right word form) daughter (class of 2015) is home from London and will be performing on the stage again. The DHS JC start led to a UCSB a cappella group and now a professional a cappella group in London!
My daughter Jean was in Jazz Choir along with Bob's daughter Erin. It was a thrill for me to watch the video Bob included above-I don't think I'd seen it before.
What fun to watch that performance! I remember it so well, and the names of the "kids," though I'd probably never remember the names if I saw them now. Thank you for your support of this wonderful group!!
My time in Jazz Choir changed the course of my life. Mr Brunelle was the first person who made me believe I was a musician.
You truly took the ball and ran with it, Adam. Your professional life has been an inspiration to so many.
Jazz choir is my favorite 💎💎💎
I always so looked forward to Jazz Choir performances and dinners.
My niece, Sarah Clements, was inspirational.
We all loved Sarah. Incredibly talented and creative.
love sarah. she’s my best friend forever 💜
Amen
Sarah was a dynamite performer and a very good singer. Polished beyond her years.
So true, Adam

Beautiful words, Bill.

Just think, Bob…if you could add signing and dancing to your repertoire…you’d have achieved triple-threat status⌨️ 🎶 🕺🏻‼️
That's absolutely scary, Bill.
…even after correcting the spelling, it ended up as “signing,” instead of “singing”…🤦🏻♂️ Still a triple threat 🤔

That is so great, Sheila. My alum daughter Erin, '94, will be performing, along with my granddaughter Satya, '25.
Very much looking forward to it.
See you there.
Bob
Incredible compared to the subpar music program when we were going to DHS.
I didn't get past Mary Had a Little Lamb

I remember Jean well. She was a star.
I was fortunate enough to be in Toronto for this performance as an alleged "chaperone."
