Generally when unsolicited too-good-to-be-true offers arrive in the mail they are indeed too good to be true.
The only exception I can think of is Omaha Steaks, which are good, but not exactly a bargain.
So yesterday I was skeptical when the esteemed USAA sent an "exciting" offer to Robert J Dunning of Davis, CA, without explaining why they didn't put a period after my middle initial.
Now, my mother was the only one in my life who ever called me Robert, and then only when I was in trouble, so being addressed as Robert by a bunch of strangers with the odd name "USAA" is off-putting in the extreme.
Then again, that same mother of mine always told me that when someone takes the time to write me a letter, I should always write back. Simple common courtesy, she said.
So I plan to send all of this post to USAA as well as sharing it with the kind subscribers who have joined me for this wild ride. I'd call it Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, but I don't like being compared to a toad.
