Oregon State crushes UC Davis, 90-57, in men's non-conference basketball rout
Beavers dominated the backboards en route to an easy win
CORVALLIS, Oregon ... This was not the way Jim Les wanted the final game to go before his UC Davis Aggies begin their Big West men's basketball schedule Thursday night at home against Cal Poly.
The Aggie head coach wanted to challenge his team with a rigorous pre-conference schedule, but he couldn't have imagined how difficult things would be for his crew against the resurgent Oregon State Beavers Saturday night before 2,517 delirious fans at Gill Coliseum on the OSU campus.
Leading from start to finish, the rebuilt Beavers crushed the Aggies, 90-57, breaking the game open early and then turning things into a rout in a lopsided second half.
When the two met last year in Corvallis, the Beavers used a late spurt to take a 71-59 win. Oregon State went on to finish 13-19 overall and 5-15 in the Pac-12.
It was a different story this time around as the Beavers bottled up high-scoring TY Johnson early, holding him to three points in the first half and 12 for the game.
The game was tied briefly at 2-2, but then OSU went on a 12-1 run and never looked back.
