Sabel, Norris lead Aggie women to rout of Cal State Fullerton
80-54 win is UCD's eighth straight, Long Beach State awaits
FULLERTON ... Tova Sabel turned in her best performance of the season as the Aggie women led from start to finish to rout Cal State Fullerton, 80-54, in Big West basketball action Thursday night In Titan Gym.
The win, UCD's eighth in a row, moves the Aggies to 5-0 in the Big West and 11-4 overall. Fullerton falls to 0-5 and 2-13.
Sabel had 24 points and 10 rebounds and started the game with a 3-pointer in the opening 23 seconds, one of her four long-range successes on the night.
Megan Norris had another standout game with 10 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks.
After Sabel's opening trey, Norris had a bucket, then Sabel, then Norris again for a 9-0 Aggie cushion and it was off to the races.
UCD led 17-12 at the quarter and then broke things open in the second period to take a 41-18 lead into intermission.
A stifling UCD defense held Fullerton to just 5 of 29 shooting from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.
The Aggies enjoyed their biggest lead of the night at the end when Avery Sussex closed the scoring with a 3-pointer. Along the way, all 13 Aggies broke into the scoring column.
The Aggies now head to Long Beach State, 4-0, for a battle of the unbeatens Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
The game will be televised live on ESPN+.
In other Big West action Thursday night, Cal Poly stopped UC San Diego, 61-56, UC Irvine crushed Cal State Northridge, 68-39, UC Santa Barbara dropped Cal State Bakersfield, 61-57, and Hawaii overwhelmed UC Riverside, 61-47.
