Should the City ban left turns onto Fifth Street in Old East Davis?
One short stretch of Fifth has seen 23 accidents in the last five years, but what's the solution?
The City of Davis, which is no doubt in the crosshairs of Donald Trump's War on Wokeness, sent me an urgent letter the other day about an issue in my East Davis neighborhood that hopefully will not involve ICE stormtroopers.
Because only three or four folks in the neighborhood actually passed Bonehead English at UC Davis on the first try - I didn't - we may have to convene a neighborhood meeting so the brightest minds can help solve this extremely local problem.
"Dear Davis Property Owner or Resident," the letter begins in that folksy, personal manner we've come to love and expect when dealing with the City.
"The City of Davis is contacting you and your neighbors regarding a proposal to restrict left-turns from the intersections of I Street, J Street and K Street onto Fifth Street," it goes on, without explaining why "left-turns" needs a hyphen.
I'll have to ask someone who passed Bonehead English about that one.
But trust me, as far as Donald Trump is concerned, our whole town made a left turn years ago and God has instructed him to put us back on a rightward path made in the image and likeness of our dear president.
"Between January 2020 and January 2025, there have been 23 collisions in this area."
I've actually witnessed several of those collisions and even once rendered aid and comfort without checking the immigration status of those involved, though I'm pretty sure they may have arrived from Woodland without a visa.
"Out of the 23 collisions, 20 collisions were located at the intersection of Fifth Street and J Street."
Now wait just a minute.
