The Wary One unveils new, separate, unique Sports Section to complement regular column offerings
Double coverage - Regular column offerings will continue with same frequency, while Sports Section will focus on UC Davis athletics and other sports topics
Starting today, I'm thrilled to announce, The Wary One will have its own separate Sports Section. This is in addition to all the regular offerings, which will continue with their same frequency.
I'm so excited about this that I thought about actually using an exclamation point at the end of that first sentence, but as I've told our kids on many occasions, if your words don't exclaim something all by themselves, no amount of punctuation can save you.
This Sports Section will not impact in any way my regular general interest, attempted humor columns that have been a staple on this site since the very first column ran just three months ago. There will be no decrease in the number of "regular" columns that have been appearing with regularity since the get-go.
The rapid growth of The Wary One has been both stunning and enormously gratifying to me, but with an exciting sports season at UC Davis just around the corner, I feel it's time to give our wonderful subscribers even more for their money.
Importantly, the addition of Sports as its own section will not result in any increase in the regular subscription rate, which has not changed since Day One on May 10.
I wish we didn't have to have paid subscriptions at all, but since this endeavor is now my way of contributing to the family budget and is completely a full-time gig, your support is what allows me to continue doing what I love. Substack pays its authors strictly by how many paid subscriptions they have.
Again, the Sports Section is an addition to The Wary One, not a change. Just hit the "Sports" button at the top of the page and presto, all of my sports stories will appear, with a complete Sports archive.
For instance, for the one-millionth year in a row, I am honored to be providing timely, in-depth reporting on all UC Davis football games, in person, for both home and away games. If the Aggies make the playoffs, I'll be there, too, wherever those games may be played. (Hopefully in Frisco, Texas for the championship game.).
I hope you continue to enjoy my writing, whether you're a sports fan or not.
I'm confident there will be something for everyone here, including the popular "comments" section after every column that I greatly enjoy responding to.
Thank you for joining me in this adventure.
It means the world to me.
