UC Davis has been blessed with a long line of of talented quarterbacks in its 106-year football history
Miles Hastings combines talent and experience as the Aggies look forward to the 2024 season
Ever since the legendary Jim Sochor took over Aggie football fortunes in the fall of 1970, UC Davis has been known as Quarterback U.
I suppose that's not surprising, given that Sochor himself was a standout quarterback at San Francisco State before bringing his offensive genius to Davis.
Actually, there are some folks, me among them, who think the Quarterback U tradition may have started a bit earlier than 1970, with folks like Dick Carriere, Paul Hackett, Ron Van De Pol, George Bonacich, Chris Graves, Bill Diaz, Frank Brett and a handful others.
Be that as it may, I've been fortunate to see dozens of Aggie quarterbacks, including Carriere, first as a young child sitting with my dad in the Toomey Field bleachers and later as a sportswriter with a comfortable seat in the sparkling all-weather press box at UC Davis Health Stadium.
