Vikings looking for first win of the season against No. 8 Aggies
UC Davis brings four-game win streak to Big Sky battle in Oregon
Bruce Barnum is a sportswriter's best friend.
The Portland State head football coach has been churning out notable quotes ever since he took over Viking fortunes in 2015 after having served five years as PSU's offensive coordinator.
One time, dismayed at that lack of attendance at home games, Barnum promised to buy a beer at a bar across the street from the stadium for everyone who showed up for the next home game. The cost for that stunt ran to over $14,000, but the coach paid up.
There will be no such beer-after-the-game promise this Saturday when Barnum sends his winless Vikings into battle against UC Davis in a Big Sky Conference game at Hillsboro Stadium in the Portland suburb of Hillsboro. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
Portland State brings an 0-4 mark into the game, all lopsided losses, and is a decided underdog against the No. 8 Aggies who are 4-1 and riding a four-game winning streak after an opening loss to Cal.
